Portable garage: Remote controlled, roll up door! What kind of motor will draw rope and raise a fabric door?

I need to erect a portable garage. I have found one that suits my needs. However, I cant seem to find a company that makes remote controlled doors for this type of garage. This is where I need the smarts of the good people here at yahoo.

Its simply a drawstring type door, almost like pulling a window shade open. I need a motor that will be robust enough to stay oustide under this canopy, also it needs to be remote controllable. If its raining out, I do not want to get out of the car, pull on a drawstring, open the door, get back in the car…….

So this remote controlled motor that I have yet to find seems to be the answer.

I know someone knows of something that will work. Please help me!

Thanks

A remote controlled motor… The first thing that comes to mind is, well, a garage door motor. You may find a replacement motor without all the extra hardware required for a standard garage installation, but from my experience they seem to come in kits only. One advantage to the kit, is the inclusion of sensors to tell the motor to shut off once the door is raised. To avoid snapping any string in your hookup, this may be the best option for you, and the motor will certainly handle a fabric door.

Another option, is purchasing a motor and remote control unit separately. I know there are simple units for say, holiday lights, where a handheld remote controls an on/off relay that plugs into a standard outlet, and contains an outlet to plug holiday lights in. (The idea being, you can turn on/off your outdoor decorations from inside the house). These are available at home improvement stores such as Home Depot. Plug the motor into the relay unit, and use the remote to control from your car.

A simple setup might just be a motor with a small diameter pulley (small diameter, to raise the door in a smooth, controlled manner).

Can i have mercedes-benz swap out my regular radio for stock navigation system on my 2008 C300 model?

Does anyone know? Also is it possible to install an aftermarket navigation system that works with all the controls in the car, so i wont have to install extra buttons or use a remote or anything. I want it to work with my car flawlessly? has anyone done this? Please help, im going to college next semester and i need a navi but not one of those stick-on ones. i want it built in like factory

You can have a genuine Mercedes sat nav fitted to replace the original stereo. However it is not that simple.

Here in the UK we have companies (found on eBay) that will replace and programme vehicle to suite.

I own a 2001 C class Mercedes and I replaced my radio with a Mercedes (Becker APS30) sat nav, bought second hand from eBay. I had to install an aerial (antenna) as an extra.

My sat nav works well and it shows directions on the radio screen. It works through all the steering wheel buttons as well. However it is possible to get the sat nav directions to show on the dash in front of the driver.

Here is where the problem arises. Mercedes wanted to charge me £330.00 ($660.00) plus tax @ 17.5% to programme this for me. I now just run with it only showing on the radio screen.

Replacing the radio with a sat nat is possible and a little time consuming, but I have been an auto electrician for 40 years so it is my job. It may be more difficult for you to do it yourself.

Aftermarket sat nav units can be fitted in the hole where your radio is, but they will not work via the steering wheel controls.

Home Automation – Lighting?

I’ve recently been thinking about adding some home automation and was wondering what it would take to get lights to work via remote control. I have a remote control that can handle it, but the lights cannot.

After looking around briefly on the web, it seems like most things I find are simple adapters that you plug into the wall, and then you plug some other lamp / appliance into that. This would work for lamps, but what about standard, wired lighting throughout a house? Overhead lights? The kinds that function with your standard wall switch?

Is there any somewhat simple way to add remote control ability to those existing lights? It seems like you should only have to change the current light switch with something that can also be controlled automatically as well, but I haven’t seen any yet.

Goggle the x10 system. I have been using this system for 12 years. It has wall switch modules. I use them for everything. I use the computer interface to turn on ALL of my Christmas related lights indoors and out. The remote controls work great. x10 is proven and dependable. Try this link:
