Experience the Thrill of Racing – Play With Remote Control Cars

Remote control cars, or RC cars, are very different from traditional RC cars. Traditional models are not as fun and thrilling because the cars tend to be smaller. Also, the technology is not as advanced. Most are battery operated and when it comes to speed and maneuvering, there is not much to shout about.

Today, the RC cars scene is totally different. There are a wide variety of cars that you can play with. There are electric cars, as well as gas and nitro powered cars. The best part is, they come in almost any shape and sizes! If you don’t like racing cars, you can try out trucks and buggies. Both on-road and off-road models are available for your enjoyment.

With better technology and bigger sizes, one would expect the prices to be sky high as well. However, due to intense competition from the Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese manufacturers, prices are kept surprisingly low.

For those who are not satisfied with the original model, just spend a little money and you can customize your RC car to your own liking. You can buy new wheels for your car, or any body parts that you’d like to replace. The accessories and parts that you purchase can be used to enhance the appearance and performance of your car.

Many RC car enthusiasts are opting for the more exciting off-road 4WD cars. Just look around your neighborhood. Chances are, you can find remote control car communities that are very active. It’s never fun to play with an RC car on your own. So you want to find an active group so that you can participate in races.

The benefits of belonging to an active community are endless. By being around people who share the same interest as you do, you can start interesting conversations about RC cars. More experienced hobbyists can share tips and advice with you. Learn from them and see if you can improve the speed of your car.

Usually, such communities hang out in a few man-made racing “circuits”. A racing circuit can be a dirt track that is setup for races and practice sessions. There may be bumps, obstacles and deadly turns on the circuit. You can use the same tracks to practice controlling your car. Speed is nothing if you can’t control it. You want your car to be able to complete races.

Once you are more confident in the handling of the car, you can start participating in races. However, note that the fine tuning process is always an on-going one. As your skill improves, you may find that you need to make improvements to your car. Also, you may need to tweak your car for maximum performance on different tracks.

But bear in mind that tweaking is not for everyone. Mostly, it’s for more advanced RC hobbyists. If you prefer some simple entertainment, then choose a 2-speed 4WD that doesn’t need much adjustments. The goal here is not to have a fast car. Rather, you just want to enjoy watching the monster car go over some really challenging obstacles. What fun!

RC Tanks for Military Enthusiasts

For the military enthusiast what could be more enjoyable than patrolling in your own tank. Unless you are fortunate enough to own a very large space to store a military tank you may have to settle for something a little smaller.

RC Tanks are the latest buzz in the military hobbyist genre.  Radio Control Tanks are generally 100% replicas of their full scale models, detailing down to the smallest features.  Modern day remote control tanks are not just the models of old which spend most of their lives perched on a shelf for display purchases.  Today’s radio controlled tanks have Infrared battle simulation and airsoft BB guns installed as standard. Every mentionable tank type is covered.  If it exists in the real world it will of course exist in the model world.  Amphibious Remote controlled tanks are also scaled down and often offered as RC toys for children.  There is less attention to detail with these types of model as they are really designed with the highest fun factor in mind.

Budget wise RC tanks range from £10 and upwards.  For £10 you would typically receive a small 1:30 RC tank which would be more toy orientated.  Prices from here would rise to around £80 for a 1:16 scale model radio control tank such as a German Tiger by Heng Long which would include many features such as BB gun, Smoke Generator, Action Figures and very careful attention to detail.  From this point forward money is not an option as many enthusiasts self build remote control tanks from kits or fashioned from their own materials.  At this end of the hobby the amount of funds that can be invested in a radio controlled tank is endless.

Concentrating on the ready to run RC tank range.  You would expect to find a complete kit included in which ever remote control tank you purchased.  This would include all radio control gear (pre-installed), batteries and any other accessories required to operate any of the advanced features of the model.  With these details in mind it makes the perfect gift for anyone with a military interest and has no prior experience of RC modelling.

What to Consider When Building Hobby RC Planes

For children and adults alike, a great pastime is making and flying hobby RC planes.  These come in a variety of styles, so the extent of how involved you want to get will dictate what type of plane you wish to get.

The first consideration would be the type of engine you prefer.  Gas powered engines are more powerful than battery powered versions.  They have better performance, but require more maintenance.  If the fuel and oil mix is not right, the engine can be quite temperamental as well.  The gas engines can be purchased already assembled or you can get a kit that you have to build the engine.

Battery powered planes are not as powerful, but are far easier to maintain.  There is no initial building of these engines.  As long as there is a charged battery, they are ready to fly.  This type is great for the beginner due to the ease of use.

Time commitment is something to consider.  If you want a plane out of the box that is ready to fly, look for something different than if you want to build it from the ground up and take your time shaping the body and building the engine.

For those who are serious about the construction and the entire process, kits are to be avoided.  You will want to hand pick the parts you put in the plane and form the wings and body all by hand.  This is going to be a more expensive and time consuming method, but it will certainly be something to be proud of the first time you fly your plane.

Kit planes come in a variety of styles and prices.  Some kits are considered RTF or ready to fly.  All you have to do is put in the radio and paint the body and it’s ready.  Others require more involvement, but will generally be quite easy to construct.  Kits include easy to follow directions to make it a breeze.

The radio control is usually an additional item that is not included with the plane.  These are quite varied, so it is up to the individual as to what type of equipment to purchase.  It is usually best not to scrimp when it come to the radio.  With a lesser model, there will be less control.  If you have multiple planes, you need to make sure to get different frequencies.  Also, if flying with other planes, make sure your frequency does not interfere with others.  This is the easiest way to crash a plane.

Whether it is a kit or a custom plane, building your own hobby RC plane is a great pastime for all.
