I have a PC and a lap top. We now have an HD TV and a PS3. My friend has something called a media centre (I think). He basically can play films through this (like a PC, i.e. when he turns it on it opens up the Windows XP desktop). He stores AVI files on there that he downloads (eek, am I aloud to say that) from the internet and watches films. He uses a keyboard as a remote control. What do I need to buy in order to be able to download films and then store them so I can watch them on my HD tv.
I’m in the UK. Could you also suggest somewhere I can get it from i.e. what shop, cheap etc. and how much memory I will need.
Thanks so much for your help, I hope you know what I’m asking. I can’t ask my friend as they speak in computer talk and I don’t understand what they are telling me to buy etc. Please could you make your answer simple. Thank you x

Bluetooth is one of the more common technologies that are embedded in most modern laptops, many mobile phones including the budget models, and various other portable devices that need to share data with another device or peripheral. Because of its implementation in so many devices, many Bluetooth peripherals were made including Bluetooth mice, Bluetooth remote controls and Bluetooth headsets. The Bluetooth headset is quite popular in its own right because it can connect to different types of devices that have the Bluetooth specification.
Why you might Need It
A Bluetooth headset is all about hands-free communication allowing users to freely communicate with other individuals without any wires in the way and any discomfort issues. It can be linked to a laptop through Bluetooth so you can load up your favorite instant messengers or online telecommunication services to voice chat with. It can also link to cellular phones so you can make or answer phone calls even if the mobile phone is in their pocket.
Some of these headsets have buttons that are dedicated to answering or ending a call along with volume control buttons. Sony even offers its own Bluetooth headset that can work with its Playstation 3 console allowing players to communicate with others during game play.
How to Choose One
Choosing a good Bluetooth headset should depend entirely on how often you plan to use the peripheral. If you plan on using it everywhere you go including indoors while on the computer or gaming, you should get a comfortable headset with ergonomic ear hook and foam for prolonged usage. It is also important to get a device that has a long battery life or is chargeable for multiple uses. Some of the versatile headsets can easily charge by plugging them on to a laptop via USB.
If you are going to use the headset primarily for phone conversations, good sound quality is recommended along with noise cancellation features and extra call-dedicated buttons are a must for better control of the mobile device. Some extra features to look out for are special LEDs as a sign that the device is in use or not.
If you own multiple Bluetooth-enabled devices, you might benefit from headsets that can connect to 2 different devices simultaneously where switching from one device to another is as easy as pressing a button. Finally, the overall design of the headset can be a factor as well especially if you plan to take it with you for business meetings.
Setting it Up
Bluetooth headsets are easy to set up and are quite similar to pairing other Bluetooth devices together. Just make sure the device’s Bluetooth function is on and is recognizable for the headset to connect. The exact process may vary so consult the user’s manual as well. Most of these headsets require a simple setup procedure for each device so that future connections pair up automatically.
A good Bluetooth headset has many nice functions and should cost less than $60 for something that is comfortable and has decent sound quality. It aims to make listening and talking easy without the annoying wires.
