I remembered how I gave up on my earliest dream, do you think it would be wise to try to follow it again?
I’m Middle Eastern – since I was able to talk I had always been interested in flying, aviation, and space… I used to build RC planes, play flight simulators, but when I was in 8th grade or so, 9/11 happened, so I had to give up on that…
I remember my dad coming in my room a few months after 9/11 – he took away my flight simulator and destroyed it, and got rid of all my blueprints for RC planes, and destroyed the airplanes that I had… he was very angry when he did it – and said that I would get the entire family in trouble… he told me never to mess with or talk about airplanes or aviation again…
I realized how serious he was, and how serious it was at the time… right now I’m 21… I have a degree in philosophy…
I’m still kind of afraid to say… apply for a flight school or go back to designing my own planes… because think I can get into trouble for it… besides, what flight school today will accept an Arab guy?
